D’Yquem stands alone—there is simply no other wine like it. Renowned for its extraordinary richness, complexity, and longevity, it holds an unrivaled place at the pinnacle of sweet wines.
LVMH director Bernard Arnault first purchased shares of d’Yquem in 1996, gradually increasing his holdings through 2009. In 2004, Pierre Lurton was appointed director, succeeding Alexandre de Lur Saluces and ushering in a new chapter for this legendary estate.
Perched atop a hill of deep limestone subsoil covered by heavy clay, d’Yquem’s unique terroir yields wines of immense structure, power, and aging potential. Each grape is hand-harvested with meticulous precision, with up to one hundred and fifty pickers making multiple passes over a two-month period, selecting each berry at its absolute peak. While other producers make one or two passes, harvesting by the bunch and hoping for noble rot, d’Yquem pursues perfection, ensuring that every drop reflects the estate’s singular excellence. What truly sets d’Yquem apart is its incredible ability to age—bottles have been known to last a century or more, evolving into something even more profound with time. In the cellar, the same painstaking attention to detail ensures that d’Yquem remains at the very top of the hierarchy of sweet wines.
Now, experience d’Yquem through the eyes of Pierre Lurton. Join him for an insider’s perspective on this magical wine as you taste pristine, perfectly aged bottles sourced directly from the Château.
