Pomerol may be the smallest of the great wine regions of Bordeaux but it produces some of the most sought-after and certainly the most expensive wines of not just Bordeaux but the world. John Pierre Moueix became a champion of the wines of Pomerol, he focused on the Northern European markets of Belgium and Holland when he was shut out of the British market. Pomerol started gaining World renown in the 1940’s when Harry Waugh, the famous English wine buyer and writer started signing its praises. Moueix went on to acquire three properties in Pomerol; Trotanoy, Lagrange, and La Fleur-Pétrus
A few years later he was able to purchase the one vineyard he really wanted, Pétrus. At the time Pétrus was not well known but Moueix believed it was as good as any of the Médoc First Growths. As a negociant as well as a proprietor, Moueix, established himself as the leading voice of the region through his two flagship estates, Pétrus and Trotanoy. Now Pomerol is considered one of the world’s greatest wine destinations. Join us as we celebrate this incredible region with its greatest estates and rarest wines.
